North Country is about the cruelties of sexual abuses and gender inequality, and the importance of taking a stand for what is right and the courage it takes to do so. It offers a portrayal of the way things used to be regarding the treatment of women in the workplace (and the way things still are, albeit to a lesser extent), as well as truths that are timeless. »
Like most everyone else, my exposure to Saw came in DVD form when word-of-mouth began pushing the movie to cult status. So when Saw II hit theatres on Friday, just a year after the original, I had my doubts that it could even come close to its predecessor. But with a wonderful story and another twist of an ending, I came to one conclusion: »
Here is a movie that does almost nothing right, but almost gets away with it due to (perhaps unintentional) humor and mindless entertainment value. Almost, but not quite. Doom begs the question: were the filmmakers serious, or just having some fun? If they were serious, what were they thinking? If they were just hoping to make a campy, amusing horror film, then they apparently either didn't know how, or lacked the clout with their superiors to take it all the way to the realm of cheese. »
Griffin family stays true to their roots
It is hard to believe that just a few short years ago, Family Guy was sitting on a shelf somewhere after FOX prematurely cancelled the show, despite its popularity among viewers. Though the move to cancel the show was discouraging, it definitely was not surprising. FOX is the network best known for canceling all of its quality shows while leaving behind terrible reality TV and Pamela Anderson sitcoms. »
