Many who attended the football game Saturday night in Allendale probably are not aware that the SVSU and GVSU student bodies raised over $20,000 for their selected charities as part of the annual "Battle of the Valleys" fund-raising competition between the two rivals. The reason no one knows is that host Grand Valley missed the boat this year, failing to properly recognize the effort and hard work put forth by both schools' students, insulting everyone associated with the fund-raiser in the process. »
This past week, the Royal & Ancient Golf Club amended its rules to allow females to attempt to qualify for the British Open, the oldest of the golf majors. The chief executive for the Club was "delighted that a qualification route has now been established for the best women players to gain access to the championship." »
As a Vanguard staff member, I had the opportunity to be on the sidelines Saturday night for what was probably the biggest Division II regular season college football game of the year. And even though I was there working, I'll admit I was excited; I am a huge college football fan and being so close to the action was an experience I haven't had often. »
