Gun control is one of those rather untouchable topics — one of the many that frequently sends opposing sides into gridlock. Many people stick it right next to health care, abortion and gay marriage on their list of topics to avoid at office Christmas parties. Since the debate over concealed weapons permits on college campuses has surfaced in Michigan, newspapers and bloggers have argued the controversial subject this way and that, inside and out. »
Imagine, tomorrow a company buys all the rainforests in the world. Less than a week later, since it owns all the oxygen-production in the world, the company claims legal ownership of all oxygen. Because Americans will pay $10 a day for enough oxygen to stay alive, that’s what the company charges. Of course, there are billions of people who can’t afford that, but those people can’t even afford $1 a day. Cutting profits by 90% to double the market size will cost the company over half of its total revenues. Even though there is plenty of oxygen for everybody, it isn’t sold to the poor; it’s burned to keep prices high. As a result, a third of the world’s population suffocates. »

Concealed weapons on college campuses not causing violence to escalate
While I realize I run the risk of being labeled as a “right wing gun nut” or a NRA “goon,” as Mr. Chipman so eloquently put it, I firmly believe that my individual right to be secure within my person should not end abruptly when I drive onto our campus. »

Whenever I ask my friends at school what stories they’d like to see covered in the Vanguard, they usually say the same thing: “Parking.” »
As the Vanguard’s sports editor, it is my job to go to various SVSU athletic contests to cover the games. With that being said, I can honestly say that even if I wasn’t getting paid to cover SVSU athletics, I would still attend games more so than not. »
