3rd Sunday of Easter - April 22, 2012

The Diocese of Saginaw is uniting with Catholics around the World in the implementation of a new Roman Missal. Some concern has been expressed that this is a move to reverse the Vatican II reforms, but as the Diocese points out, even a quick look at the changes reveals that this is not the case. These changes solidify Vatican II.

This is a new translation, not what happened in 1969 when the Mass that had been used since 1570 was completely overhauled along with the language being changed from Latin to English. The only thing changing is the translation of the Latin. The new translation seeks to match more closely the exact words and sentence structure to give a faithful rendering of the original meaning.

Although, in a few cases, it results in awkward-sounding text, the deeper language brings a new sense of reverence to the Mass and reflects on the truer meaning of the prayers.

The Catholic Campus Ministry at SVSU is organized by the Catholics on Campus student group. Established in October of 2005, the mission of Catholics on Campus is to bring Jesus Christ to SVSU through the Real Presence at the Mass for SVSU students and faculty.
